Due to the rising incidents of attacks on the doctors, state government and BMC appointed security guards in the government and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals.
But the security guards of Sir JJ Group of Hospitals suddenly vanished. In the absence of security guards, MARD’s resident doctors association protested in the hospital premises by flashing boards, which demanded security. Though, the state government has denied the allegations of withdrawing the security.
Dr TP Lahane, Joint Director of Directorate of Medical Education (DMER) informed, “We didn’t withdraw the security. The security guards of the agency have gone on strike.”
Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Sarang Donarkar, Sir JJ Group of Hospitals MARD President said, “The security guards went on strike as they didn’t get their salaries.”
Dr Dinesh Sharma, Former MARD President of Government medical college Nagpur said, “We protested on Monday. It is government’s duty to provide us security. In the emergency situations, there should be some security arrangements.”
In support of doctors from Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, BYL Nair Hospital’s resident doctors protested as well. While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Bharatbhushan Telang, BYL Nair Hospital’s MARD president said, “We have protested to support the doctors from Sir JJ Group of Hospitals. BMC has given us high security. But, the security of doctors is still the main question.”
